Only a few days remain for ensembles wishing to participate in one of the world’s most prestigious professional choral competitions. Applications for the 30th Bartók Béla International Choir Competition (BBCC) are being accepted until January 31, 2026.
From July 2 to 5, 2026, Debrecen will once again become the international capital of choral singing. The Bartók Béla International Choir Competition, founded in 1961 and boasting a history of over sixty years, is reaching a significant milestone: the 30th jubilee edition awaits the world’s finest choirs in a spirit of both tradition and renewal.
A Mission for Quality and Community
Zoltán Kocsis-Holper, Chairman of the Artistic Committee of the BBCC, emphasized that the competition is more than just a contest; it is an inspiring environment where a high-level community of choral singers can meet. The primary goal remains the high-quality presentation of contemporary a cappella choral works.
Dániel Somogyi-Tóth, Chief Musical Director of the City of Debrecen and Director of the organizing Kodály Philharmonia, believes the jubilee event symbolizes the city’s commitment to cultural innovation. The success of the recently relaunched format, alongside the experience gained from the Kodály Zoltán International Music Competition, guarantees a world-class event for all participants.
The Path to the European Grand Prix
The stakes are high: the Grand Prize winner of the Debrecen competition will once again receive an invitation to the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing (EGP). This elite event brings together the winners of the most prestigious European competitions to compete for the ultimate title.
