A Gala Concert entitled “Vivat, crescat, floreat!” will be held on 2 August in Debrecen at the Kölcsey Centre as part of the 2024 Béla Bartók International Choir Competition.

Following the tradition of previous years, the programme will feature composers and works closely associated with the competition, as well as premieres composed especially for the occasion.

The concert will open with Máté Bella’s Vivat, crescat, floreat!, written especially for the competition, followed by works by Árpád Barabás, Bence Kutrik and Dániel Dobos performed by the two choirs of the evening, the Lautitia Children’s Choir conducted by József Nemes and the Kodály Choir of Debrecen conducted by Zoltán Kocsis-Holper.

The second half of the concert will feature Péter Tóth’s oratorio The Wedding, with a text by Anna Mechler based on folk sources, composed for the 2020 competition, which was cancelled due to the pandemic. The work will be performed by the Kodály Choir and the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zsolt Hamar.
